Krank It Up
David Quick, 6/30/2008Website: http://www.charleston.net/news/2008/jun/30/krank_up4593...

Think of Spinning but with a highly evolved, hand cranking cycle, or Krankcycle. It's the next innovation for Spinning's creator Johnny Goldberg, "Johnny G", and is expect to launch commerically in March 2009.
Last Wednesday Goldberg was at Mount Pleasant's Eco Fitness Club, among the 10 "beta test sites" in the Untied States and the first in the Southeast to introduce Kranking and the Krankcycle.

The Charleston Review: Eco Fitness

As the name implies, Eco Fitness has an environmental focus and is trying to be a good neighbor and good shepherd to the environment through unique gyms located in downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Part of urging others to become healthier is the affordability of the gyms. Members are able to take unlimited yoga classes for a reasonable rate, unlike the majority of studios where yoga is very expensive, forcing students to scale back on the number of classes they can afford to take. There are an abundance of class selections to choose from, including Hot Yoga, Pilates, Spinning, popular hip hop classes, Tae Bo, strength and cardio mix classes, totaling more than 100 classes a week between the two locations. Members have the flexibility to go back and forth between both of the venues.
The smaller downtown Eco Fitness and next door neighbor Blue Turtle Yoga opened first in November of 2004, and the Mount Pleasant location followed in March of 2007. The second locale expanded on the approach and offers acupuncture, chiropractic care and massage under the same roof. The spacious childcare center has activities for kids and doesn't include television. Members ask if there are plans for expansion and owner, Dave Fox, says no. "We try to do things really well. I'd rather do two locations really well." The members can attest that this has been accomplished, and so can I after my experience at the yoga center.

The Charleston Review: Eco FitnessCharleston Home To Master Spinner
David Quick, 10/1/2007Website: http://www.charleston.net/news/2007/oct/01/charleston_h...
Leaders in the fitness industry in the United States tend to hail from or gravitate to Los Angeles, New York or Miami, but one of the top representatives of a popular, indoor cycling program hangs her cleats in Mount Pleasant. Luciana Marcial-Vincion, one of 120 master Spinning instructors, was selected this year as the global master instructor team leader, a position in which she is the liaison between Spinning's license owner Mad Dogg Athletics and master instructors around the world.

She's so Skirt!
Luciana Marcial-Vincion, 0/0/Website: http://charleston.skirt.com/node/5165

Luciana keeps the world spinning. As a Master Instructor with Mad Dogg Athletics Spinning™ program for the last eight years, Luciana (also the Spinning director at ECO Fitness) has traveled the country teaching workshops and certifying other Spinning instructors. A year ago, she went global, with her promotion to Global Master Instructor Team Manager, in charge of the 130 Master Instructors across the country. "That brings an international element to it," says Luciana, who loves hoofing it beside indoor cyclists from New Zealand, Hungary and Japan (among others) at the annual World Spinning and Sports Conference. "I was a professional aerobic junkie, with Jane Fonda leg-warmers and the whole deal," admits Luciana. "I got hooked on Spinning, though, because of the strong mind-body connection. It's more than just a workout. You have to ride with something deeper. Every spinning session should be a journey, an opportunity to progress mentally, emotionally, spiritually."
